Robot handling gives maximum tool grinding at minimal cost November 2008

Maximum tool grinding output at minimal cost is promised by the Ewag 5-axis Compact Line CNC tool grinder which has an integrated multi-axis handling robot.

Ideally suited to unmanned multi-shift operation, and able to processes carbide, cermet, ceramic and CBN/PCD tools, the Ewag Compact Line has several other in-built features designed to reduce non-productive cycle times to complement its 6-axis Fanuc robot

They include a three-in-one wheel sharpening unit, capable of dressing, regenerating and crushing; universal workpiece clamping systems located identically on the B- axis and quickly identified using the Ewag Plug & Play interface for reduced changeover times; and fast pushbutton wheel change (one or two wheels of 250 mm diameter) via the HSK-E 50 system.

With resolutions of 0.0001 mm in X, Y and Z axes which have travels of 450 by 180 by 150 mm, and a similar resolution in the B axis, the machine’s grinding head (A axis) has a movement range of –15 to + 25 deg and the 5.5 kW spindle produces up to 10,000 rpm.
